Winter garden weekend in the Glen Innes Highlands!
Calling all garden lovers of the New England!
GLENRAC are hosting a FREE winter garden weekend this long weekend with guest presenter Meredith Kirton - gardening expert, author and Gardening Australia presenter alumni.
Two gardens directly impacted by the recent bushfires will be on display over the weekend, with the first stop off at the established ‘Rosedale’, home and garden of Rob and Cath Wheatley at Stannum on Saturday afternoon. Meredith will discuss ways to incorporate structure in an established garden and Sarah Caldwell from Mole River Native Nursery will share the secrets of plant propagating.
The following morning ‘Whinstanes’, the home and garden of Pete and Ros Alexander, will open its gates to showcase what gardeners can create with an empty canvas. Meredith will discuss designing a garden from scratch, particularly what works and what doesn’t, and Pam Youman from Black Mountain Nursery will provide her expert knowledge on plant species selection for cool climate gardens.
All are invited to join in the festivities which will include plants, prizes, Our Place coffee and fundraising catering by Deepwater School P&C and Glen Innes Pony Club. Please note that both locations have suitable indoor venues if weather is inclement, meaning the weekend will go ahead rain, snow or shine!
These events are funded by the Australian Government, Glen Innes Severn Council, the NSW Environmental Trust and the NSW DPI Rural Resilience Program. DPI’s Rural Resilience Support Service works with primary producers, small landholders and communities across NSW to support in recovery after disaster or adverse events.
The newly appointed Glen Innes local DPI Recovery Support Officer Jane Munro will be attending both workshops and the weekend will be a great opportunity for attendees to connect with Jane. DPI Recovery workers are a single point of contact, providing information and referrals to support individuals on their recovery journey.
